Keith Olbermann gave a special "Campaign Comment" on his program this week, during which he discussed the constitutional definition of the Office of the Vice President--and Republican VP pick Sarah Palin's dogged ability to misunderstand the role of this office. Palin has failed to define the true nature of the office four times, saying that the vice president is "in charge of the United States Senate" and that the Constitution granted the vice president flexibility if they so chose to become more involved in the affairs of the Senate during interviews. In fact, the vice presidency is an incredibly limited position, with the constitutionally granted power to break a tie in the Senate should one arise, and to take the president's place should he or she die, resign, or become incapacitated.
