On Wednesday night, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden are trolling the web for women voters.
At 8pm Eastern, the Obama Campaign is broadcasting what it bills as "one of the largest women's web forums in history." Hillary and Joe will chat with women voters about "equal pay for equal work, reproductive health, expanding the Family Medical Leave Act" and Social Security, says the campaign, taking questions that were posted online over the past few days. The event even has a clunky title, "The Women for the Change We Need Week of Action Video Forum." Today the Obama Campaign is also circulating a YouTube video of a presentation from the Democratic convention about "Women for Obama."

Clinton attacks by pseudointellectual bloggers never stop. Comm'on. Hillary has been more than gracious. It's time to heal our wounds so we can win.

A lot of this tail chasing would be funny if we weren't in such dire circumstances.
There are, of course, so many issues that need and deserve our attention and I'm certainly not denigrating the women's movement by any means but.....
WAKE THE HELL UP AMERICA!
Whenever Barack Obama is ready to exhibit some cojones --or some "Boudica" estrogen if you like (look her up, she'd have made a great word origin for bodicious)-- a massive slice of the American electorate is ready to listen at this point I'm pretty sure.
He could focus on just three easy to remember points:
1. The economy is in shambles and it's time for an overhaul of the regulatory rules and agencies as well as massive investment at home in infrastructure, education and high value-added segments of the American economy that provides non-exportable or difficult to export jobs.
2. Our vastly overbloated military must be downsized and retracted to reflect the realities of an increasingly globalized economy in which no one actor can possibly "police the world" --IT'S IMPOSSIBLE, I REPEAT IM-'POSS-IBLE!
We must rely on an interlinked global economy and stable alliances with Europe, Japan and Asia writ large --including Russia and China who share an interest in stability and RESTRAINED growth.
WELCOME TO THE NEW REALITY OF AN OVERBURDENED GLOBAL ECOSYSTEM.
3. Security will only ensured through an internationally cooperative effort to control potential loose nukes and to maintain a hawk's eye on the production and distrubution of nuclear materials.
In concert, there must be a global treaty to close nuclear power plants world-wide and allow only clean alternative resources as the endpoint goal while investing massively and globally to sequester CO2 emissions safely away from our fragile

atmosphere.
Will this happen?
In a pigs eye, sadly.

correction to above:
"bodacious"
Something we're unlikely to witness....
until it's too late.

Yup, the global economy's teetering on the edge of the toilet seat contemplating whether 'tis nobler to weather the slings and arrows of outrageous hubris....
yup...
another slow news day.

B_KOOL, before you get to lecture on...well...anything....
Explain how the above "treaty" will work...for say...FRANCE. Which gets 75% of its total electricity from nuclear power plants?
Going to give them 40-50 years to switch to an alternative?
If not, explain IN DETAIL how they switch to "only clean alternative resources" without collapsing their economy and forcing the City of Lights to go back to candle power.
Throw in a few other European nations...and Russia....and China and India....and then explain why they're going to sign such a treaty and gut anywhere from 10-50% of their power output on ANY kind of time-line YOU want.
Or keep up with the pie-in-the-sky stuff as is your SOP.

~It's an extemporaneaous off the cuff idea for a speech that I just threw out there on a split seconds notice to get a reaction.
It was apparently quite effective.
Bay away, thou hound of hell.
The central point is that the time for rousing action is upon us, and Obama's opportunity to inspire is at hand.
I'm one who believes that inspiration can be every bit as powerful as persperation.
But you Maskot, are the archetype for "let's take the hard way, let's not bother to think outside the box".
Brilliance is needed now, not the cries of dullards.
Posted by b_kool_66 at 09/17/2008 @ 3:45pm
Damn spell check is not up apparently.
Apologies for the sloppy posts, I'm in a hurry.

No, I'm the archetype for "Explain in detail your bullshit proposal or don't be expected to be taken seriously", KOOL.
Same as for some Righty who says "Kill all dem Muslims and make the world safe"....not that you're as violent, but just as dopey.
Come on, give us some details? How does FRANCE (for one) go from 75% nuclear power to "clean alternatives"....and how long will you give them to do it...and what if they can't do it without going for "black-out nights" or ending new factory or housing construction?
Otherwise, it's just more of the "Hey, man...wouldn't it be cool if we could..." school of in-depth policy creation.
Posted by Maskdelta at 09/17/2008 @ 4:00pm
You missed my point entirely --per your SOP.
It's your most glaring flaw and it prevents useful discussion.
Go away, useless cur.
Return only after therapy and/or surgery to cure your imperceptive communications module.
Until then, adieu, my helpless pet.

What IS the point, KOOL?
That Obama should go out and make wild, totally vague policy statements and then when asked for DETAILS...say "Man, you just don't understand. You're such a dullard!" and look as foolish and naive as you????
Yeah, that'd REALLY win him the hearts and minds of Americans.

~Maskot
That's been his SOP, hasn't it?
What I suggested wasn't so wild if it's sharpened a bit and softened enough for mass consumption.
The problem, ultimately, is with the inablity of the masses to think indepently and thoughtfully.
No amount of speech making can make up for an ignorant audience, sadly.
My posts are, admittedly, often flaming arrows into the darkness of a human abyss, but hope must never be relinquished --the fires of inspiration are the fuel of history.
It's all we've got in the end.
Now, I gotta go.
Peace, dude.

The biggest persuasive point the right wing has with the blue collar types is anti-environmentalism . It basically boils down to the declaration that we need change NOTHING in our approach to energy usage or lifestyle. All we have to do is drill at home, build nuke plants, kick ass in the Middle East, topple governments in Latin America & everything will stay the same. Any mention of reducing energy usage & consumption is seen as anti-American & anti growth. Well good luck because China, India, Brazil & Russia have signed on too & the race to the bottom continues.

Sorry, KOOL. But you can't both defend AND attack vagueries.
Nor try to shift blame to the "masses", when YOU started this little game of "Let's sign a treaty to all go solar in 10 years" stuff with NO details, NO plan, and NO time-lines. And claim it's something that Obama should do as well.
Posted by Maskdelta at 09/17/2008 @ 4:34pm
Behind closed doors in Democratic HQ there must be consternation that not even the economic meltdown has given their candidate the surge he needs, in national circumstances that should have had way ahead. They'll also be aware that the neck-and-neck polls don't take into account the Bradley factor. Obama is almost certainly further behind than the polls predict. Here's what I think could well happen: Biden will do well in the VP debate and, unless he gains a big surge - which is unlikely - he'll pull out shortly afterwards for "health" reasons, allowing Hillary to be parachuted in for the home stretch. This would (a)underline McCain's dodgier health, while showing Biden to be more responsible and, crucially (b)allowing the ticket to better connect with the crucial female voters that Obama has so far been unable to reach. Clinton would also look polished and substantial beside her opposite number, and be free to go for the attack without being accused of sexism. Just a thought...but you know where you read it first......
