  • Victor Navasky's commentary is right on point. Americans have real problems and are sick and tired of groomed and managed candidates--who are so mediated they must be as confused about who they really are and what they really believe in as voters are.

    When Navasky calls for authenticity in public life he is talking about a politics that doesn't yet exist. And that's too bad.

    Voters are turned off by the election game--and two party politics... precisely because of the phoniness of it all. And Americans mostly don't vote for a presidential candidate--but rather against the one they dislike the most. This lesser of two evils is how elections are really won or lost--not wooing the mythical middle--and it's a sad comment on the paucity of our public life.
