Web Letters: Pro Patria, Pro Mundo

I had recently begun reading A Just Response: The Nation on Terrorism, Democracy and September 11, 2001 and was fortunate to encounter this brilliant essay. Jaw-dropping, illuminating and inspiring. Much needed during this time of not just fiscal crisis but a crisis of national and personal identity as well.

I think the current situation has to be viewed from another perspective--the global system. I can't decide whether the fundamental problem with debt obligations lies with mortgage defaults or is a ruse to put the onus on our citizens. This obfuscates the global corporations' hypocrisy and perpetuation of boom-bust economic cycles. All at the expense of sovereignty and the investment sorely needed for the benefit of American society as well as infrastructure.

What Mr. Greider has written here of the contradictions, hypocrisy and propaganda is all too prescient of the current situation. He actually predicted the problems leading to the current financial crisis and the propaganda machine obfuscating the fundamental causes. Fortunately, Mr. Greider also motivates us to enact the powers of our sovereignty and demanding the real fundamental changes that would give us hope and strength in restoring national dignity and economic stability.

Thanks for the inspiration. I'm urging all citizens, national and global, to read and reflect upon it.
