The article discusses three books, "Bird-Self Accumulated," by Don Judson, "Worst Fears," by Fay Weldon and "The Gettin Place," by Susan Straight. The book titled "Bird-Self Accumulated," is Judson's first book. It is the winner of the 1995 Bobst award for emerging writers. The book focuses on the character named Holgate and has six self-contained chapters. In those chapters Holgate interrupts himself, goes into reverse and jump cuts. He ignores linear narrative and circles, hovers, focusing on moments of revelation, on elaborate and contingent memories, on the power of weather and on drugs.
