The article features Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic whip of the U.S. House of Representatives. There is a speculation that she will replace Dick Gephardt who resigned from his position as U.S. House minority leader. Her strategy as a leader, which she learned from her father, has made her a favorite of Democrats who believe that the party needs to distinguish itself from Republicans. It is noted that the signals she sent as she launched her bid to replace Gephardt were mixed. The efforts of the administration of U.S. George W. Bush to prevent the election of Pelosi as minority leader are discussed.
