The article presents an editorial discussing the issue of torture and the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush. The resolutions regarding the humane treatment of prisoners established by the Nuremberg Tribunals are discussed. It is the author's view that the United States continues to torture prisoners despite statements denying the claim. The prolonged imprisonment of enemy combatant José Padilla is also reviewed. The author suggests that events of the twentieth century proved that no nation or constitutional system is immune from the downward human rights spiral signified by torture.
