The Business of Religion

This article focuses on two books by Roger W. Babson, "Fundamentals of Prosperity," and "Religion and Business." Babson tells us that if we would be prosperous we must needs be moral, and therefore religious. But there is very good historical justification for fearing that once we are prosperous we shall cease to be religious. The business of religion is not, Babson seems to think, to teach morals but to reveal values and it is precisely this that religion has not been doing. If it could give to men a true principle of valuation, morals would take care of themselves.
