The article focuses on the growing criticism from spokesmen of the scientific community regarding the real point and purpose of Apollo, the man-on-the moon project. Arguments ranged from the suggestion that the money for the project be spent to cure the sick and feed the hungry to the more modest complaint that it is cheaper to send machines to the moon than men. The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) effort reeks of the bailing-wire and quick-fix approach. So by the time NASA have hacked their way to the moon, taxpayers will be saddled by a gorgeous junk pile of useless hardware, plenty of goofs and fiascoes and a fiscal hangover.
