This article presents information on a pre-election survey in the middle west region of the U.S. on those contests which are of more than local interest and which are likely to affect national policy either immediately or in 1964. If the Republicans are going to gain seats in the Senate to point their party more hopefully toward 1964, they will have to do it in some other part of the country than the Midwest. The six Midwestern states names and parties of the Senators whose seats are at stake include Frank J. Lausche, Democrat from Ohio; Homer E. Capehart, Republican from Indiana; Everett McKinley Dirksen, Republican from Illinois; Edward V. Long, Democrat from Missouri; Bourke B. Hicikenlooper, Republican from Iowa; and Alexander Wiley, Republican from Wisconsin.
